Requiem for Blood - Book Tour

Requiem for Blood by Alexandra Hope
Publication: February 7th 2013
Genre: Upper YA Paranormal/Dark Fantasy

Marrying East Asian mythology with Western folklore, this novel has a surprising twist for fans of the paranormal genre!
Seventeen year old Olivia Cohen has also had an appetite for blood and an aversion to the sun as a human and when she is killed by a mysterious young woman, she finds her appetite has heightened and her skin is now burned by the sun. Living her life in a colony with other people who live a "vampire-like" lifestyle, she has grown up hunting humans and believing there is a blood so powerful it will turn them from vampire-like into true vampires. On one of Olivia's final nights as a human she meets eighteen year old Troy Evans and is immediately drawn to the unique scent of his blood. Now as an actual vampire, she must learn how to suppress her need to hunt and kill for his sake and decide if his unique blood is worth saving from those who seek it.

16+ for dark themes.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me for Whirlwindbooks, I am a huge fan of your novels and cannot wait to read more. I thought I would jump right in and ask what inspired you to write?

First off, thanks so much for that and for having me on your blog. As far as what inspired me, I'm not really sure where the inspiration to write came from actually. I just had a burning desire to tell a story that was my own so I guess the seed that planted a love of writing within me was reading. I enjoyed stories and wanted one of my own, except I NEVER wanted anyone to read my writings....

I loved your books! I was just curious how did the idea for this series come about?

Honestly, I was watching The Vampire Diaries, which I love by the way, and turned to my husband and said “no one ever tells me how a vampire came to exist. I know how they turn and stuff, but can anyone other than The Vampire Diaries give me a reason for their existence??” I started to go off an a rant and brain stormed from there.

Are there going to be more books in the same series? Maybe a spin off or something?

I have three books in total planned which I hope will be enough to tell Olivia's story.

How did you find the support from other Authors? I have always been curious if it is a welcoming world or if you have to gain respect to be considered a part of it.

As far as support from other authors...I didn't find any because I didn't search for any, but I know there's an overwhelming amount of resources and support for others online at various forums. I assume they're pretty nice and helpful fellows. I feel like if someone is trying to say being an author is part of an exclusive club where you must do X, Y and Z to qualify, they are most definitely not the crowd I want to be around. I would prefer to be around only the most welcoming of people, where everyone is a winner no matter how bad you suck or how hard you fail.

How much of the book came from your imagination and how much came from real people and experiences?

A lot came from my imagination because it's so vast and also, I can't think of a single person I know in real life that mimics Olivia's voice or actions. She's completely her own but Troy and I do share a few personal experiences as well as a birthday. :) If there were ever an author insert on my part, Troy and I would be one in the same.

If you were to cast a movie for the book, who would you pick to play who?

The toughest and easiest question of them all! Firstly, it would be out of this world amazing if the book was turned into a movie which I believe only Quentin Tarentino could do it justice. As far as cast members, Darren Criss is Noah in the flesh! That's why I would petition for Requiem for Blood The Musical and then have the lovely Diana Agron as Olivia. I can't think of anyone for Troy though.

Do you have any other books planned that are not related to this series?

I do. It's a web of ideas that aren't quite sorted yet but some stories involve those who fight with their shadows, vampire HS students trying to survive the zombie apocalypse and other randomness.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my Questions!

Thanks for asking them, they were all lovely.
