Review—Choices by Sydney Lane
“I hate you, Quince. I hate you because when I saw you just now, I still thought you were the most beautiful girl in the room.”
Quincy Priest is the “perfect” daughter. Being the younger of two girls, she learned at a very young age that she needed to always be what everyone wanted. Quincy didn’t mess up…and she was ready to finally be away from the life that kept her walking on eggshells.
Going away to college was a dream come true. A full scholarship to UT was a guaranteed way to escape her small town and finally just live; no longer worrying about what would happen if she made a mistake, or how it would affect her family. Except Quincy still worries, what she left behind will always find a way back to her.
In the meantime, live is what she did; what better way to experience college than boys? Especially hot, available and interested boys! Quincy has a few choices…
“Declan is the total package. He is gorgeous, thoughtful, and perfect. He already knows where he wants to go in life, and he’s paving the road to get there. We talk like we’ve known each other forever. He makes me laugh, and I trust him. Brody is smoking hot, but I hardly know anything else about him. I just know that when he’s around, I can’t think of anyone else.”
How can she ever choose? But, deciding on which guy she wants is the least of Quincy’s worries. Being away from home presents an entirely different dilemma; and a few missed phone calls changes everything, leaving Quince with a lot of unanswered questions along with unwavering guilt.
So, who is it going to be? And how will she move forward? Being young doesn’t mean the choices are easy…but can Quincy live with those choices?
“Just live, Quincy. Go out there, do what makes you happy, and just…live.”
Well, this book tore me to shreds. I can count on one hand the books that cause a good ugly cry out of me…and I have just added Choices to the list. There are two different ways to interpret this story and I was lucky enough to catch both of them. There is definitely a love triangle (plenty of angst—which was quite awesome) but it was the family side of this story that REALLY ripped my heart out. I related to this so intimately, I can’t even fully explain…but I absolutely loved it. That ending…the dedication…*sigh* Beautiful.

Just as I get to my car, a hand wraps around mine. I swing around, only to find Brody looking down at me. “Did you think of an answer to my question, Quince? Are you with Declan or not?”
I’m not sure why it matters to him. He’s not interested in me like that anyway. “I’m not with anyone, Brody. I’ve only known him a week. That’s not long enough to know anything about anyone.”
“Oh, I don’t know about that. I know enough about you to know that I want to get to know you better.” His voice lowers, and he leans down just close enough that I can feel his breath on my cheek. “I know enough to know that I’d like to kiss you right now. To know that if I do, it won’t be nearly enough.” His lips graze my face, just enough to let me know they are there. “I know you want to kiss me like I want to kiss you. I just don’t know the answer to my question.” If I just moved an inch, his mouth would be on mine. And I want it.
