More Than This - Book Tour (V)

Blurb:

*Mikayla*

In one night my fairytale ended. Or it may have begun. This is my story of friendship and love, heartbreak and desire, and the strength to show weakness.

*Jake*

One night I met a girl. A sad and broken girl, but one more beautiful than any other. She laughed through her sadness, while I loved through her heartbreak.

*This is our story of a maybe ever after.*

He was right. It made no difference whether it was 6 months or 6 years.

I couldn’t undo what had been done. I couldn’t change the future.

I couldn’t even predict it.

It was one night.

One night when everything changed.

It was so much more than just the betrayal.

It was the Tragedy.

The Deaths.

The Murders.

But it was also that feeling.

The feeling of falling.

Review—More than This by Jay Mclean

“It’s then I realize that this might be the last time I see her.  I don’t know what her plans are, or where she’ll live after this.  Is she still going to UNC?  She might not even want to see me again.  Surely, in her mind, I’m linked to the worst night of her life.  I didn’t even think of THAT.”

Jake and Makayla are forever connected.  In one night, she goes from being his stand-in date after catching her own prom date messing around with her best friend, to depending on him to hold her together after the most tragic thing that could happen to her rips her heart to shreds.   Can the connection they made when he came to her “rescue” at the restaurant, lending an ear and a shoulder; introducing her to his friends, sharing prom night memories and a kiss that set both of their bodies on fire stay strong after the news she receives at the end of the night that changes her life in an instant?

“…It hurts less today than it did yesterday.  Because being here, being with them, it’s familiar in a good way.  And I think, for just a second, that maybe my heart can learn to love again.”

As Kayla begins to heal and move forward with her life, the connection to Jake grows stronger every day; with every look, every touch, every word, Kayla finds herself falling for Jake…and Jake knows that with Kayla, things are so different, feelings are so much deeper than he ever thought possible.  Both know that they have something rare, but because events in their lives are passing like a whirlwind, neither wants to admit their feelings as such.

“’Hey, Jake?’ I whisper, hoping not to wake him if he has falls asleep. “Mm?” “Have you ever been in love?” He sounds so sleepy when he answers. “You’ve already asked me this.” “Yeah, but I didn’t get a proper answer.” “Yeah you did, and that’s all you’ll get.  Goodnight, Kayla.”  “Hey, Jake?” “Yeah, Kayla?” He’s almost asleep.  “I more than a lot like you.” It’s quiet for so long I don’t know if he heard me.  Then, ‘I more than a lot like you too, so much more than a lot.’”

I love, love, loved this book.  Sexy accents, cheating boyfriends & best friends, tragedy, new friendships, silly boys, sports, book references (and book BFF’s), likes, love, family…I could go on and on.  This book has it all.  The only thing that made it better was the fact that it was in dual POV (which I absolutely adore in my books), as well a little glimpse into some of the other characters lives.  I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens with Logan and even Megan…Mclean did a fantastic job of pulling my heartstrings as well as raising my temperature.  I cannot wait to see what is in store for us with this author!
