Envy is a silent, cold-blooded killer, extinguishing a little more life from me every day.
Hitting sharp, fast and seemingly out of nowhere; struck by lightning not a storm cloud in sight... in she rolls. Reece Madison, a force to be reckoned with, head of the class- which means one thing- she's out of mine.
"You're wasting your time Rhett Foster. Locks have keys and walls can be climbed. I'm not buying your cold, skeptical act for one minute."
And then there's that...
But as much as she compels me to open up, show her what no one else gets to see…there’s guilty shadows lurking in the depths of her eyes that she cannot hide.
It always happens the same way, every time. The second I finish coming, the blip of exhilaration dissipates, and I’m left feeling vapid and angry. I turn my back on my latest conquest and, blocking out the images of insincere, physical satiation, I scurry off like a criminal. Maybe I should quit fucking them.
Or maybe I shouldn’t. The tête-à-têtes, and unrequited clinginess as much their fault as my own—more in fact, if everyone’s being honest with themselves. I tell them, straight up, in plain English, no “code” or sidestepping what I’m really saying, that it’s one fuck. I offer absolutely nothing more, and they accept. But women have a specific order and purpose to everything they do. It shouldn’t eat at me when another woman discovers her plan didn’t work, and surprise, she isn’t the one “different” enough to change me.
You want to be the lady worthy of a call the next day, flowers, a ring? Then don’t ride the dick until you get at least one of them. And if you do jump on—gyrating and grinding in what you’re just certain is some mystical, “He’s never had it so good before” kind of way, and it doesn’t work—don’t blame anyone but yourself. Who was really trying to manipulate whom?
"Only a free soul can thrive, wild and untamed."
Rhett is that guy. He's gorgeous, he's talented, he's a complete player. Or so you think....
Reece is that girl. She's strong, she's beautiful, she's independent. She's also trying to prove that she's more than just the pretty face her father thinks she is. With a love for music and her family business, Reece would seemingly have it all...
That is, until she and Rhett meet.
Now, neither one knows how to handle these new emotions running rampant through them. All they know is that when they get together, the chemistry is undeniable. Explosive.
"You are the exception, the prettiest damn remedy in the whole world, and the most astonishing person I have ever fallen into."
But, both have skeletons. Both have dreams. Both have vices...but neither expected the other to be that perfect remedy to what ails them...and depending on each individual outcome, they may or may not find out what it feels like to be truly found.
"I can't fault women for hoping. You're pretty hard to miss, and that's without them even knowing the best parts. Because those? Those you choose to give only to me."
Queue the SWOON alert! I have been a tried & true SE Hall fan since I picked up Emerge...but this new series, this book specifically, I don't know how she does it! I am laughing, crying, warm & fuzzy, and hot & bothered all within the pages of this book. I always feel like I'm a part of what is happening, that I have a front row seat to the best movie ever made and as I watch the chapters unfold, I refuse to move. There are no bathroom breaks, food runs, attentions diverted. It's just me, Rhett, Reece, and the rest of the gang. Okay, maybe that sounds a little creepy because obviously I wouldn't want to be front row for ALL of it...but you get my point. That's how immersed into this story I became.
I loved this book, I loved the love between brothers, the lack of between father & daughter, and mostly, between friends. The "crews" are some of my favorite people and just go to show, you can choose your family...they don't have to be your blood, just have your back.
Lastly, I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for the last story...we learn a little about it in Pretty Remedy, but the epilogue--that's a kicker and a sure-fire way to have me watching my kindle with an eagle eye.
