Blog Tour -- Blurred Lines

Lauren Layne
Releasing Aug 25th, 2015

In a novel that’s perfect for fans of Abbi Glines and Jessica Sorensen, USA Today bestselling author Lauren Layne delivers a sexy take on the timeless question: Can a guy and a girl really be “just friends”?

When Parker Blanton meets Ben Olsen during her freshman year of college, the connection is immediate—and platonic. Six years later, they’re still best friends, sharing an apartment in Portland’s trendy Northwest District as they happily settle into adult life. But when Parker’s boyfriend dumps her out of the blue, she starts to wonder about Ben’s no-strings-attached approach to dating. The trouble is, even with Ben as her wingman, Parker can’t seem to get the hang of casual sex—until she tries it with him.

The arrangement works perfectly . . . at first. The sex is mind-blowing, and their friendship remains as solid as ever, without any of the usual messy romantic entanglements. But when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their friendship on the rocks for the first time, Parker and Ben face an alarming truth: Maybe they can’t go back. And maybe, deep down, they never want to.

Review—Blurred Lines by Lauren Layne

“Because sometimes when I look back at all those years ago, I’ll have a split-second of regret that I didn’t act fast—that I didn’t snatch up the best girl I’ve ever met when I had the chance. Because I can’t now. She’s someone else’s girl. That, and I’m too afraid I’d mess up the best thing that ever happened to me.” –Ben

First let me start by saying…I wish I wrote this book. It was that good. I was drawn in from the first page and didn’t want to let go when I read the last. Layne has a wonderful ability to not just tell you the story, but show it to you. I felt every bit of their angst, their disappointment, pride, joy, and love. I never wanted the back-and-forth to end, but it had to and again, I wish I wrote it. IT. WAS. THAT. GOOD.

Back to the story…

Ben Olsen and Parker Blanton are determined to defy the odds of the age-old saying “guys can’t be friends with girls”. And that they do, they work. Strictly platonic. Six years of being each other’s BFF and not one slip up.

Parker is happy in her relationship with Lance. Ben is happy in his lack of relationship with anybody. But, one night changes everything…Lance is out of the picture and Parker is determined to take on Ben’s way of thinking toward relationships and sex. And why not? If guys can do it, so can girls. Right?

“I don’t want Parker to become the female version of me.”-Ben

“What if my mom is on to something? What if the right guy to scratch my sexual itch is the one who makes me laugh? The one I can talk to. What if the right guy…Has been right in front of me?”-Parker

Ah, yes. What if? What if the lines of friendship could be crossed and uncrossed over and over again without any repercussions? What if they can have the connection and the friendship without the complication of a relationship? But then again, what if they can’t?

Six years. Six years is a long time. There is a lot more than hot water and fresh laundry at stake…

“Ben and my no strings attached relationship? Yeah. Turns out that there are suddenly strings after all. And I’m completely tangled in them.” –Parker

This book is one to be savored. One to read over and over again. This is a book to adorn your shelf and hopefully give you the opportunity to meet the face behind the words that just…just hit home. This is a real-life scenario that has been so well executed into fiction. There was not one boring thing about it, not one mundane detail, and not one minute that went by where I wasn’t so engrossed it physically angered me to be disturbed. I truly hope her other books are like this because I’m going to be reading every single one. Layne made me feel…everything. It was tasteful and sensual and perfect. I want more, I need more…I’m going out to get more, because there is just no way I will ever have enough.
