Series: The Core Four Series #2
Author: Stacy Borel
Genre: NA Romance

Dr. Turner Brooks may be the professional brother, but he's also the adrenaline junkie. When he meets Annabelle, a girl scared to death of veering from the path she’s paved for herself, all he wants to do is push her out of that comfort zone.
Annabelle has already lost too much. She wants to stay focused on her new nursing job and away from unnecessary risks. Turner Brooks is exactly that – an unnecessary risk. She’s heard the rumors about him flying around the hospital, describing him as a “womanizer” or “sex god.” Yeah, she doesn’t need that.
Still, Turner tries to teach her that life is full of risks worth taking. As they grow closer and she begins to let go, the unexpected happens.
Will they be able to recover from that surprising fastball or could this be the final strike out?
**This book can be read as a stand alone**
“I, Annabelle Shaffer, don’t do danger. Nope, I colored within the lines. That’s where safety lies. I knew if I ever slipped outside of those lines, I welcomed the possibility of hurt. Because of that, I made sure I stayed inside of my protective bubble is where I controlled my future. I liked it there.”
Welcome to the Core Four, Book Two. Meet Annabelle and Turner. While this book can be read as a standalone, I do love that we are brought back into the fold of the Brooks family. I have missed them, truly.
Now, the story.
Annabelle is a nurse in labor and delivery, orphaned at sixteen and closed off to any and all relationships for fear of loss. Delivering babies gives her a satisfaction without delving into connection…until a premature delivery with an uncaring mother leaves Annabelle with ties to a fighting soul that doesn’t even have a name.
Turner Brooks, excuse me, Dr. Turner Brooks is the infamous ladies’ man. He knows he’s a player with no plans to change…until he meets the one woman who has no interest in his antics or charm.
“This was going to take some thought on my part. I wanted to break her out of her shell and she what she was made of, but I could tell it was going to be a process. Annabelle was my new project, and I was looking forward to seeing who she really was.”
I can say, I definitely enjoyed getting reacquainted with this series. After Bender, I was hungover…and after Slider, I felt…full. That’s probably not the right word but it’s the best I can do. This story absolutely lived up to its title; it slid into my heart and took up a permanent spot, leaving in its wake, a warm feeling of contentment and just…happy. I look forward to more, especially since I have a feeling the next Brooks brother has his work cut out for him.
