Blogger Review -- Hard Rules

Wall Street meets the Sons of Anarchy in the smoldering, scorching first novel in the explosively sexy new Dirty Money series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones.

How bad do you want it?

The only man within the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to take his family's business dealings legitimate. His reckless and ruthless brother, Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit, and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil.

Emily is consumed by Shane, pushed sexually in ways she never dreamed of, falling deeper into the all-encompassing passion that is this man. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Emily has a secret, the very thing that brought her to him in the first place, and that secret that could that destroy them both.

"I'm ready to be alone with him, to revel in every second I have with this man. I know it can't last. And I am ready to be the way he escapes and finds just a little peace in the war that rages in his reality."

Oh, where to begin with this story...I honestly don't know. I. Don't. Know.

I am confused, shocked, turned on, and not very happy! Like, I had goosebumps when I read the last sentence-not happy. Jones has a knack for leaving us hanging by bloody fingers to a ledge of I personally cannot wait to get lost in. Hard Rules is just the beginning of what I hope to another amazing series, just like theInside Out Series, this one gives just one piece of the puzzle at a time. With each story, a new aspect will unfold--but not without you wanting to lose your mind at the end while you impatiently wait for the next one to be released. That's really how I feel!

But enough about my feelings, here's a bit of the story.

"Everyone is not who or what they seem, and once someone is in your bed, they're dangerously close to you. Watch your back with that woman."

Shane Brandon is the good guy. The good guy pitted against his own brother by their dying father. And he's at war.

Emily Stevens is running from something. Something that is bad enough that she carries two phones, has no furniture in her apartment, and has no idea who Shane Brandon is when she accidentally steals his coffee one morning. Except...maybe she does. Maybe she knows more than she lets on, maybe what she's running from is who she unknowingly ran to.

Like I said, I have NO IDEA! That's how crazy-messed-up this story really is. So many layers. Factors in play. Characters we haven't even formally met yet! I can't wait to see what "Hard Rules" Shane has planned...
