Okay, so in book two...I totally cried. More than once. In true Molly McAdams fashion, my heart bled for one and rooted for the other. It was amazing and heartbreaking and filled with every emotion I can't even begin to fully explain.
But, I will say this. In case you weren't aware, this series is standalone...at least right now. I have a feeling the next book gives redemption to who I thought was the hero in this book. And lord knows he needs it...I need it!
Lily O'Sullivan tempts fate every time she sneaks away. Even more so when she unknowingly entices the heart of Dare Borello. You see, they're mortal enemies. Feuding families of opposing gangs. Mafia.
Things can't possibly end well...except neither actually knows who the other is. Yet.
"Truth or dare," he called out just as I rounded the half to take me back into the main part of the cafe. I paused, a smile pulling at my lips as I turned to face him. "Don't you know what I'll choose?" "I can't read your mind, Firefly. I only know what you'll choose when you're afraid." "Then dare." Surprise flickered in his eyes and that carefree grin lit up his face. But his voice held a hint of hesitation and when he pled, "Give me you." "I already have. I could deny and fight my feelings for you for the rest of my life, but I can see now that it was never a choice with you. But our lives...they aren't ready for the fallout of this."
And fallout there is...it's deliciously gut wrenching in a way that makes you beg for more yet can't bear the outcome. I loved every page, each one pulling me deeper into a life lived in fear. A life lived to survive rather than thrive. A life that no man in his right mind wants a part of...and a woman trapped in the middle of it all.
It's by Lily's strength, her defiance, her love, that somehow everything becomes wrongfully right. And when book three comes out, we will learn what happens to the other guy...
